Amy Ng, AN-art-Amy, is a gestural abstract artist that deals with fluidity of intense brushstrokes and obscure texture. Her paintings could be symbolic or erotic with suggestive images that are both obvious and hidden. It could be vibrant in colour or no colour at all. Subject matter is very important; however it is almost never obvious. The intention is always to get the audience to think past the norm and to understand the deeper layers which exist in everything.
Ng's work is partially formed by the extraction of life struggles and conflicts. She studies and dissects such subject matters to minimize and expose it. Often as much as one tries to suppress their bias and experiences in our subconciousness, you may find these depictions in her art. Expressing through her art in a subtle but powerful way to expose the world we live in. Ng sees herself as a struggling artist that uses art as a method to learn about the complexity of our surroundings.
In recent years, as Ng reached middle age she began to focus on flowers painted on round canvases. This shift came about through changes in her body, both mentally and physically. Thus, providing inspiration to delve into themes of femininity and the experience of women in society. Her flower series reflects feminism through florals, just as it has symbolized women throughout history. The various flowers are painted from the back, representing a woman's path of growth as she reaches different stages of life.
